Evening Qigong at Atrium Behavioral Health Ballantyne – Cancelled due to Pandemic

March 25 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Qigong exercise therapy is taught in a group setting to adults participating in outpatient care and after care for a substance use disorder. Qigong is a combination of gentle, slow-paced and dynamic exercise that improves balance and flexibility and relieves stress and pain. The graceful movements of Qigong are easy to learn and are both relaxing and energizing. These exercises are unique and promote coordination and brain health. Participants will learn the basics of this powerful mind-body energy practice based on the principles of Chinese Medicine. They will be guided to connect to and strengthen their body’s natural ability to heal, become fit, healthy, and cultivate inner peacefulness.

The goal is to help participants better manage the symptoms of withdrawal and recovery and support them in maintaining sobriety and building a new and healthy life, physically, emotionally and mentally. Substance use disorders include the addiction (overuse or dependence) to alcohol or other drugs that lead to work, school, home or health problems. Class is taught on alternating Wednesdays at 11:30am.

The behavioral health team at Atrium Health partners with our patients for every step on the road to recovery from substance use. We help patients achieve recovery by providing understanding of the disorder and providing tools to manage symptoms. Our treatment programs emphasize education, the 12-step recovery philosophy and the importance of a support network during and after treatment.
